Now that we are coming into the recovery phase of the largest wind storm to hit Galiano in over 20 years, it is time to review our experiences and ensure preparedness for the next emergency situation whether it be wind, rain, hail, earthquake or tsunami.
As you restock your emergency kits, include photos of your pets, a small bag of dry food (and wet if possible), bottled water, collars/leashes and medications. Make sure you have supplies for at least 72 hours or up to one week. Consider registering your pet with the BC Pet Registry
During this storm and the aftermath Rest.Q volunteers responded to calls for assistance regarding missing pets, injured humans that were evacuated to hospital leaving pets behind, pet feeding as well as pet rescue and fostering. We like happy endings for everyone, human and pet. And we think you do too.
